Chris Hammock
-Singer/Songwriter-
Drawing inspiration from the sweat & grind of blue-collar jobs, evening walks in the woods & life's experiences; Chris' music resonates with the early acoustic sounds of Ben Howard, City & Colour & Noah Gunderson.

-Biography-
from an early age, music seemed to be everywhere. From church choir & hymnals to classic rock vinyls & late night country radio. “most of my earliest, fondest memories, in one way or another, seem to be centered around (or at least synced to) a song.” By the time he got his first guitar, around the age of 12, chris was already enamored with melodies & lyrics. “I remember, before i knew anything about my guitar or chords or song structure, simply putting my dad's albums on the record player & figuring out the melody on a single guitar string.”
Chris showed an aptitude for creative writing early on & slowly began to blend music with long-form poetry. “I remember reading essays from Emerson, short stories from Steinbeck, & every lyric from every vinyl or cd that was in the house. I loved the way that those words & sounds could carry me off into some other world.” Drawing inspiration from the transcendentalist writers & poets of the past along with the classic rock, country & easy listening of his parents music collection, chris began discovering his own style of crafting a song.
Fast forward through years of trying on different hats for size (bad student, carpenter, factory worker, traveler, Glazier, business owner), chris found himself, in the later half of 2013, inspired to dig back into music. under the heavy influence of singer/songwriters like ben howard, ryan adams, noah gunderson & dallas green, chris began writing down, from a fresh perspective, what would soon become the made-at-home demo titled “The Spruce tree sessions”. This 4-song ep (Released in 2015), though lacking the quality of a pure studio recording, showcases chris' breakaway from the standard structures of “pop” music. there's almost something magical to the background movements / “noise” of life (particularly the impromptu bird calls in “Rain” & the cicadas & train whistle in “The Wave”) when blended with chris' alternate tuned guitar, soothing vocals & percussive playing style.
in 2018 chris released his 2nd ep “Chasing embers”. This time around, the long-form, lyrical nature of “the spruce tree sessions” would be condensed down. the more lyrically abstract “chasing Embers” paints a broader-stroked picture. From the dreamy feel of “no good reason” to the production of “Dark corner”, you begin to hear a progression towards professionalism. yet, there's still a taste of something raw & soulful in the acoustic tracks of “chasing embers” & “dark corner acoustic”.
at present, chris is gigging as a solo & duo act & will be dropping some new singles in late spring of 2024.
